The two oldest men arrested in the melee received surprises during their bail hearings before Duval County Judge James Ruth when both were released, one to join the U.S. Army as he had planned, the other to take part in remedial programs as part of an order to stay away from the marketplace.
The fights appear to have begun when an off-duty police officer was rushed by a group of teens and young adults at the movie theaters entrance and had to fend them off with pepper spray, police said. Then it escalated into a crowd estimated at about 600.

Jacksonville = a Chicago wanna-be.
From the story:
“The female officer was forced to spray them and lock the doors. “
The crowd surged, female cop panicked and sprayed a crowd with pepper spray and then locked herself behind doors. Pathetic.
>>Jacksonville = a Chicago wanna-be.
Its the Northside. That’s a totally different world from the rest of town.
I was born and raised on the West Side. I’m very familiar with the city. But thanks.
>>I was born and raised on the West Side. Im very familiar with the city. But thanks.
Then you should know that most of the city is safe and that almost all of our crime is centered in a few areas. We are FAR from being a Chicago wannabee.
I know many areas that used to be safe are now no safer than Chicago. I know my family who still live there have been victimized while living in those areas. I know many of the friends I grew up with are now dead because, unlike me, they never left. I also know there are many who are in denial as to just how bad JAX has become. But that’s no problem of mine; I escaped that pisshole many years ago.
What would you have done differently?
>> I know many of the friends I grew up with are now dead because, unlike me, they never left.
Ahh. You ran with the drug crowd, I see. Good for you for getting away from that life.
Bishop Kenny vs Bolles.
Your ignorance is no excuse to attack the dead. But given that you still live in that pisshole I can understand why you would be ignorant.
No, but your ignorance sure comes close.
Obviously someone lived “across the tracks.”
>>Your ignorance is no excuse to attack the dead.
>> I know many of the friends I grew up with are now dead because, unlike me, they never left.
It’s not ignorance. Whenever someone makes a statement like, “I’d be dead now if I still lived there” or “my friends are dead because they stayed there”, people are talking about drug culture. Unless “there” is Kosovo or Falujah.
Obviously you have a chip on your shoulder about Jacksonville. You have a right to your opinion. It has problems like any multi-ethnic city in America, but it is no Chicago!
