So if you were wrong in this particular case, how would you know?
Surely you have and objective criteria, and aren’t relying on an arrogant cynicism.
Here’s where your argument falls apart: He’s expressed conservative anti-gay sentiments before and A&E did nothing. I suppose you think it’s just coincidence that this happened during the Christmas rush.
Can you find those comments he made before and A&E did nothing? Or were those comments made BEFORE they signed the Robertsons on for the show, and if they were made before they signed, A&E KNEW what they were getting.
The problem is A&E wanted to mold Phil into their image of a backwoods redneck and Phil had nothing to do with it.
I’ll know if the marketing ploy doesn’t work. If people don’t buy up DD merchandise in record droves. So far, there’s little hope of that.
Your cynicism is blinding you to realities other than the money angle. The real issue(s) here are the moral/constitutional ones. You ascribe a solely financial motive to the Robertson clan and ignore their Christian-based message. I saw Willie Robertson speak at Liberty University and he commented extensively about all the Duck Dynasty promoting that was taking place (all the articles for sale). He and his family were amused at corporate-based greed in trying to cash in on the show’s popularity, all the while giving their “brand” an opportunity to infuse the culture with a Christian message. Most of that marketing is, no doubt, part of some contractual obligation (owning the rights to the show).
Conclusion of the matter: your perception of their motives is driven, not by an understanding of who they are/what they believe, but by your own understanding (as you’ve readily admitted: “It’s what I would do.”)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on YOUR OWN understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”
For sake of discussion, let's say your observation is dead on.
What does it say about CB?
This boycott may be premature. Cracker Barrel is still selling Duck Commander gear in their online store. http://shop.crackerbarrel.com/s?defaultSearchTextValue=Search&searchKeywords=duck&Action=submit
So you're saying you can tell intent by results.
Thanks, that's all I needed to establish.
Yes, I’m sure the hiring of the DD crowd was some sort of highbrow attempt atocking the South by A&E. /sarc
Yes they are but they’ve removed all Phil items for both DD and DC.
I don’t think they did it together, but I read/heard somewhere that they grew the beards and started the reality show. I don’t know the truth.
That they don’t want their stores to turn into liberal or conservative rally sites a la Chik-Fil-A. Seeing some of the responses in this thread, I can’t really blame them.
You ignored my request.
Where are the remarks Phil made previously while under contract to A&E?
Sorry Phil I ain’t given up my CB fried catfish.
But they’ve pulled merchandise with Phil Robertson’s image associated with it? Then, doesn’t that make you all the more angry thinking you’ll be okay with this? I mean it does seem to indicate they agree with the GLADDsome folks’ reaction.
Why bother? I’ve rarely seen such a case of “special pleading,” as this.
By this guys standards, the baby pictures he referred to prove the beards are fake.
You’re arguing with someone who insists on proving they’re the smartest person in the room.
First off, I didn’t say he made them while under contract., that’s completely beside the point. But his beliefs were well known to A&E. Here is a story that surfaced just this morning, about things he said back in 2010: www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-duck-dynasty-phil-robertson-20131220,0,1685719.story
Well, they failed.
They should have kept their heads down for the time being. Wal-Mart seems to be able to.
As the fill in for Rush said yesterday (paraphrasing) ‘Make no mistake, they’re coming for you too, you’ll not be able to sit on the fence for long’.
Then A&E was perfectly aware of what they were getting. Blame them for pursuing the series, not Phil for his statements of conviction.
Cheddar’s is better.
