If you have a computer running XP, it probably doesn't have the hardware required to run Windows 8.0/8.1.
You can either throw it away or give an alternative operating system a whirl, especially if all you do is email and web.
When April 8th, 2014 comes to pass, I will assess WinXP thoroughly and will likely install Linux Mint latest version.
I will then use Macrium Reflect and Virtual Box to take an image of my XP system, convert it to a VHD file and restore it to a VM running inside Linux.
I'll likely disable the virtual NIC to disconnect the VM from the 'net and use Linux for all that.
I'd go whole hog to Linux but wifey needs XP and some essential apps which will not run on Linux.
My plan should keep everyone happy.
