The RDAs of vitamins are rather arbitrary. More vitamins than some minimum are probably helpful in some sense. But sometimes lights at the end of tunnels turn out to be the headlamps of oncoming trains... perhaps surfeits of vitamins might facilitate body wear in some fashion. And none of our mortal bodies are permanent anyhow. The all things in moderation theory has a lot to be said for it.

I imagine that’s why they recommend 1-A day instead of 10.

I kind of split the difference with a low potency daily multivitamin. I figure it’s unlikely to have unintended consequences like long term use of a high potency multivitamin might, but at the same time it’ll help fill in the gaps if I’m not getting something in my diet.

If you have half decent diet, the most you need is a multi. The mistake people make is to think that if a little is good than more must be better.

It’s not the single multi that is a waste of money, but the single pill per vitamin and mineral that is the problem.

Anything more than the body actually uses just gets pissed away.

If you hadn't noticed, all vitamin supplements reduced their vitamin A content to no more than 5000 IU's per day as there is evidence that along term intake of high doses of vitamin A and beta-carotene can increase the risk of lung cancer and cardiovascular disease.
