As bad as it was, I loved it. Some of it has to do that I was dating my husband when we saw it back in the 70s, but mostly it was so campy! I’ve tried to get my kids to watch it to get a feel what the hippies’ 60s were like. It’s almost like watching a satire of the 1960s, except that it wasn’t.

I was such a conservative back then and I didn't even know it, the movie Billy Jack made me puke! I went to California during the hippie years and saw it up close with my husband's hippie cousins. It was appalling for a conservative Texas girl.

At the time I loved it also. How naive I was. Like you said, it might be worth watching just for the campiness.

How ironic. I never get tired of watching SOUND OF MUSIC or GONE WITH THE WIND or WIZARD OF OZ, no matter how innocent they were. They have a certain timelessness, something I never outgrew. Yet BILLY JACK & all those other left-wing films, for all their "sophistication," now seem incredibly dated & silly.
