kneehurts: " I don’t understand how people can be proud those monsters defeated Germany.
Yes, Germany was a monster as well, but the utter defeat of the communist system would have served us well. "

Of course, that was Nazi propaganda of the time, and some people today still believe it.
Patrick Buchanan for one wrote a whole book to explain how Britain & the US should have just let the Germans be Germans, and finish off Stalin for us.

But, the historical problem is: neither Churchill nor Roosevelt considered Stalin to be their Number One enemy, indeed Churchill likely realized that the Communist Revolution of 1917 was the work of German First World War policy, money and agents -- sent there to take Russia out of that war.

So both Roosevelt and Churchill considered the resurgent Nazi Germany to be Enemy Number One, and were willing to do pretty much anything to keep Stalin's Russia in the war, on our side.
Otherwise, there was no way to defeat Hitler, and without Germany's defeat, neither Italy nor even Japan could be brought to Unconditional Surrender.

In the end, it's highly debatable as to which was the bigger monster, Stalin or Hitler.
I like to think of them as Stalin the Old Master Monster, and Hitler his precocious, imaginative young student.

kneehurts: "It’s a shame Roosevelt and his cabinet were communists as well and just wanted to save their ideological masters."

Well, that's a bit tough on FDR.
Of course, some of his people were Communists, but FDR himself not-so-much, especially by today's standards.
And dear FRiend, if you doubt me for even a second on this point, then just ask yourself: what wild-eyed, radical, extremist, reactionary, Neanderthal-Republican has ever suggested we return the US Federal Government to the size, scope and costs of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal?

None that I know of...

There were no “white hats” in the brutal war in the east between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Ask the Poles who were ground to dust between them. But I’m still fascinated by the scope and brutality of the titanic struggle between them.
