IMHO the problem is the resentment to the arrogance of the government. The new style bulbs are expensive compared to incandescent bulbs however they do last longer. If you get a bulb with light from the appropriate heat range...that is yellow rather than blue white light, they are warm enough. Of course that is all personal taste. So I am with you. The new bulbs last much longer and their light is good and their electricity consumption is low so given the choice I would buy the new bulbs . But I resent forcing me to buy what they, our tyrants, demand we buy. So there is that.
I also resent government telling me what kind of bulb I can get. The mercury bulbs were a disaster IMO. Crappy light and potentially going to make every landfill a superfund cleanup site using current EPA rules.
However, I am a fan of saving money as long as the light is warm and appears somewhat natural. Hopefully the mercury filled Gorebulbs are gone because the LED lights seem to be much better. I still have a stockpile of the older style bulbs because I did not like the mercury ones - they give me headaches.
So far I’ve only used CFC lamps in a couple of stairways - turned on and off only when negotiating stairs. I’ve replaced them both twice over the last 5 years. I don’t know if the CFCs are defective, if there a problem with the electric circuits or maybe they just like to be left on longer...or what? Why don’t they last longer?
I’m glad to hear the positive comments about the LCD lamps. Gotta try them next
I agree. It’s the principle of the thing that’s irksome, even if the LEDs turn out to be a good alternative. At least we’re not being forced into those lousy CFLs.
