First of all, let me say that I have been a lurker on FR since 2000. My wife (The Bat Lady) has been registered and a poster since the same time. I generally use FR as a news source and in years past as an info source for FR organized protests/demonstrations. I dont generally comment on articles because I mostly agree and dont need to preach to the choir. However one article fired me up and I finally register in August 2013.
That being said, I recently commented on an article regarding Steve Stockman running against John Cornyn. Knowing a lot about Texas politics I said Stockman was not a viable candidate. OMG! You would have thought I said I pissed on Reagans grave. I was called a troll, a Cornyn plant, a GOP-e (if my friends had heard that they would be laughing their asses off.) With all the name-calling I had to look to see if I was on FR or DU. Conservatives pride themselves on the quality of their debate versus liberal knee-jerk name-calling. I guess some here on FR cant raise themselves above that level.
Sticks and Stones! But more disturbing to me is the rise what I like to call the FR-e. Those are the posters that think that because they have been on FR for a long time that they are some kind of royalty and that newcomer comments and insights have no validity if they do not parrot their particular perception. I was called a noob prattling"
(prat·tle talk idly or childishly: to talk in a silly, idle, or childish way silly, idle, or childish talk)
Just because someone has recently discovered FR or recently joined after lurking they prattle? Oops, my bad, I guess they dont prattle if they agree with the pompous long-term freeper. Maybe we could cut back on the fundraisers if we encouraged new members rather than drive them off or turned them off with vitriolic discourse and vicious name-calling
(vit·ri·ol·ic adjective - filled with the intention or desire to do evil.)
If you havent looked at the Home page (click Free republic at the top left of the browse page) I invite you to look again: Jim Robinson states: Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support...
Jim is trying to attract people to FR. How does denigrating a new reader attract them to FR? Being a victim of a verbal knock-out game by a supercilious FR-e certainly does not encourage a "newbie" to participate or even hang around
(su·per·cil·i·ous adjective 1. behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.)
Certainly all long time members dont fit this category but those who do know who you are (or maybe you dont) and so do we.
Don’t worry about it. If your points are valid why should you care if you are called a Noob. Heck..I’ll be Noob forever more. I kind of like it. It’s the only time anyone calls me a youngster these days, lol.
These threads are interesting because of the witty responses.
Stockman may not have a chance...but a run off would be nice.
Yes, I do al. We can all have a good laugh on the old windbag....he’s worth millions.
I already have Ubuntu on my Mac.....
I only steal the best.
You will NEVER hear him make a case FOR Cornyn. LOL
and I just remember it being more polite. Which was probably before someone's husband started tossing hand grenades at NOOB's without the gravitas of being a - non-NOOB..
Don't ya think?

a moose, a moosebitten sister, some cheese, and a gaggle of French bred surrender monkeys...
I agree. That said with the media in his pocket the repubs were going to get the the blame. And we had no end game. First ot was defund ..than delay....then please let us have the the Vitter amendment...then fold. One ..two...knockoutby Jarrett and Obama.
Whiners that dive into a discussion and can't take the heat will be mocked about the head and shoulders.
Welcome as a registered FR - don't forget to donate come fundraising time...
Great post.
I find some Freepers a tad cliquey and hard on newcomers.
Once, years ago,I asked how long it took to no longer be a newcomer—1 month,6 months,a year? I had no responses, other than sarcasm.
None of this really bothers me because I love FR,but I was curious.
I consider it interesting behavior and ignore it.
.
I spend alot of my free time on Amateur Radio (Ham) now. Just worked Namibia which makes country #134 for me. (Literally just got that contact in the last 10 minutes.)
Other than that, still working too hard/too much. One of these days I'll start slowing down. Even after 4 major back surgeries and nueropathy in both feet I can still out-work the energizer bunny. :-)
The route to success is to challenge the RINO at the primary level where you have a fighting chance of victory, rather than going sellout party in the general where you will always be doing a Perot, and handing a victory to the Marxist.
No, I'm well aware of that and totally agree. But it doesn't work out all that often due to the power of the incumbency, the state run media, and lack of term limits. Particularly so at the presidential level, where the R's haven't put up a candidate since Reagan that I didn't have to hold my nose to vote for, or simply refuse to vote for at all as with Bush I and McCain. And as a result of this latter admission, I expect the negative comments to come rolling in for any RINOs paying attention - even though it doesn't matter WHO I vote for at the presidential level because I live in a deep blue state.
The point was about nasty responses once it gets to the stage where the RINO wins the primary, with major GOPe, Dem & state run media support, and then the lesser-of-the-evils choice inevitably presents itself.
Royalty?! Yes, well it is a huge accomplishment to register on a website before someone else.
I bet you are a “Boomer”. Yes we Xers should definitely follow the Boomer example. /s
The pride of length of “membership” is a big thing on FR. Me thinks discussions should be judged on strength of the argument rather than how long you’ve been registered.
Noobs welcome.
Trolls not........in my book.
“I bet you are a Boomer. Yes we Xers should definitely follow the Boomer example”
Gen X, embarrassingly said. AT the boomers own homes of their own and don’t live with their parents. They also know how to get to a job without being late or looking like a slob or having a helicopter parent hovering over them.
“If anything, it used to be more rough-and-tumble than it is today. “
Yep. Funny how people think words are something physical. They act like an unkind word is a beating; both to those giving and those receiving.
