Talk about your alternate realities. These people live in their own private purgatory. The poor children are doomed unless the are separated from the only people they’ve ever known. There must be no equivalent to Child Protective Services over there. Of course, The world is still a very big place, even today. If you step away from cell phone contact you can, if you want to drop out of society. I doubt if there was any religion or teaching of morality. Each generation was getting progressively worse than the one before.
