We used to pour gasoline on them when I was a kid in Valdosta GA. No, we didn’t light it. The survivors would just build a new bed about five feet away.
We now have ‘Caribbean Crazy Ants’ here. They seem to drive out the fire ants. They bite, but not like fire ants, just regular ants, no blisters or pus bumps. They swarm all over my garden and patio like ‘crazy’. They just seem to run around in circles in no apparent pattern, just like a disturbed mound. I don’t mind them nearly as much, as they are pollinators...............
We loved stuffing M-80s and Cherry Bombs into those big enty holes. Flying jihadi ants everywhere............
Fire ants have runs going put 2 or 3’ from main mound. When they started showing up in south Alabama in the early
1950 s, we sprayed a circle about 5 or 6’ out from the mound and then stick the nozzle down into the mound.
