It is probably owned by a mobster. Most restaurants that only take cash are money laundering operations. There are a few very good Italian places in Boston that only take cash. It is a good way to hide proceeds from illegal gambling, etc.

Lou Mitchells has been around for 85 years. It's well known and very popular.
In May 2002, the Nationwide Route 66 restoration program was launched at Lou Mitchell's.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

PS- It’s good business practice also. No CC payments to banks. The airport at home where I fly also does not take CC’s. If you do, you have to pay a fee. In a note to renters they stated it costs them $35,000 a year in bank fees to accept CC’s so they don’t take them anymore unless you pay a surcharge.
