Pics at link of 80s artists now...
Ah, this reminds me...I was programming the sirius radio in the car and hubby says: just put 40s on 4, 50s on 5, 60s on 6 and stop when you get to “Men without Hats”.
Mick Jones of The Clash and BAD looks pretty good for having almost died a some years back, saw him and Don Letts playing at a club in London a couple years back.
Saw PM in Hollywood last month - great - (Spirit)
Whoaaaaaaaaaa. The Go Go’s still rocking the sex appeal, I see baby
Susanna Hoffs!?!? - omg - she looks good but just has zero sex appeal unlike Debbie Harry or Belinda Carlisle. )))
Trent Reznor of NIN ...maybe 90’s sobered up and won an Oscar.
Most of these people make "old" look pretty darn good - like Peter Murphy, The Cult, Morrissey, David Bowie and (swoon) The Go Go's
Dang! Boy George is kinda hot! Did I just say that?
Allison Moyet of Yaz relaunched her musical career a year or two back, sounds great, looks great. She was a very big gal in her heyday but is in shape, slim and attractive for forty-something now, still with the reverberating classically trained voice. It would be a nice show in a smaller venue if she were ever to pass through nearby.
i agree that The GoGos and Bananarama are still looking pretty good. The Bangles chicks aren’t too bad either. The rest of the females however.......WOOF!
My Gaydar was off the chart on half the guys in these pics.
Some of them are aging gracefully. Others look like they spend the last 25 years in a wood pulp masher and still think it's 1988.
Looking at all of those pics and names reminds me of how much of the 80’s music sucked.
I used to think she was so hot. (Yes, I totally love redheads.) Amazingly, she turned out to be a lesbian.
**sigh** I'll go take my handful of "morning pills" now. d:^\
The B52's did a gig in Tampa at the hockey forum plaza outside before a game. Part of the game experience is to hang out in the plaza (really nice area) to have a beverage and a (local) Cuban cigar (hand rolled right in front of you, it's pretty cool actually) . There's a large Cuban population in Tampa so their food and culture are part of the area.
Anyway Kate decided the cigar smoking was unhealthy and felt a need to inform everyone about it. She then started the song Love Shack with "Let's put out our cigars and paaaaarty!". Everyone was yelling back "shut up and sing!!!". It completelty rattled her. Was very funny.
1981~1990 will long be remembered as a golden age for music, and all because of Music Television, the greatest advertising medium ever devised for music.
For those who were alive and over the age of 10, they can still likely remember dozens or even hundreds of artists, performers, videos and music from that time. The 1990s produced only perhaps a quarter of that much, and from 2000 on, likely fewer than a dozen in a decade, of variable quality, made it into the public consciousness with any staying power.
And Music Television Died because the music industry saw it as taking money from them, not as the superb FREE advertising medium it was. It was part of the music industries’ amazing ability to shoot itself in the foot, repeatedly, based on the idea that nobody else should ever be able to profit in any way from “their” music.
Daffy Duck-level greed.
But it was great while it lasted. Even if the majority of it was mediocre at best, it was a gold rush for music, and many artists the music industry would have never supported became hits.
LOL!
Aieeeee! The suckage! The suuuuuuuuckaaaaaaagggge!
I haven’t seen that much suck-ness collected in one place since I took the White House tour.
