If, as the courts have found, the police are under no obligation to protect you from others, why should anyone expect them to protect you from yourself? That, of course, is the legally informed, real world Rule of Law correct question.
Unfortunately, this occurred in Bizarro World America where Constitutional Rule of Law is fantasy.
