Life was a lot different back in 1942. That was 71 years ago.

For perspective, 71 years before 1942 was 1871, just a few years after the Civil War had ended. There was no movie to watch in 1871 because movies did not exist yet. 1871 was the year of the big Chicago Fire - which was not started by Mrs. O'Leary's cow. (How come Mr. O'Leary is never mentioned?

So 71 years is a long time. Consider that 71 years before 1871 is 1800 - and before that, 1729 - which takes us well before Revolutionary times.

2013 - Where we are right now
1942 - When "Big Street" was released
1871 - Great Chicago Fire
1800 - Beethoven and Napoleon were alive!
1729 - Yikes, dental care sucked!

What will we be talking about 71 years from now - 2084?

2084 will be 100 years since “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen”
