Three strikes, you’re out. He knew the stakes going in and did it anyway. Let him rot

IF YOU CAN’T DO THE TIME, DON’T DO THE CRIME. PERIOD.

CLEARLY, he does not value his time. He was willing to risk life in prison over $1 of drugs.

What if your kid were the sole witness of him fleeing the scene of a crime? Given what we know about him valuing his own life, what value would he put on your kid's life?

And that is why "3 Strikes" laws exist.

Don’t worry. Eric Holder is on it:

“A vicious cycle of poverty, criminality and incarceration traps too many Americans and weakens too many communities,” Attorney General Eric Holder said recently, when he announced an overhaul of the justice system. Under his plans, petty criminals serving drug-related sentences are to be released.

only time i’d disagree is if crooked cops set someone up. like someone who never used drugs having a cop toss a bag into their car.

You see, he’s not “serving life for a slice of pizza.”

He’s serving life for possession of meth while on probation as a two-time loser.

The pizza has nothing to do with why he’s in jail.

I look at the hell that liberals are giving to gun owners and I know they would love to make us the new American Pariahs instead of the druggies. That's all I think about when I hear about these mandatory sentance horror stories. It will be us staring at a mandatory minimum gun sentance someday for failing to comply with their BS gun ban law.

Don't think it will happen? Do you think you could have convinced anyone that Barack Obama would happen 40 years ago?

Certain posts like this always shake out and expose the closet liberals.

Let me get this straight, the three strikes laws pertain to committing 3 felonies, stealing a slice of pizza is NOT a felony it is a misdemeanor. In fact all the so called crimes listed here are misdemeanors and therefore would not have landed any of these people in jail for life.

Anyone who has committed 2 felonies knows about the three strikes law and should keep their hands off other people's property, that said this story, and others like it, is a phony, there is more to these cases them a simple misdemeanor charge sending someone to life without parole.

I love three strikes laws. It says that if you wanna’ be a career criminal then you can serve the rest of your ‘career’ in prison. If you’re too stupid to self restrain yourself after two serious crimes then you’re unfit for society.... Buh bye.

I know about that “slice of pizza” case. A career violent felon out on parole forcibly took a slice of pizza from a young boy on the Santa Monica pier, and was one of the first sentenced to life under California’s 3 strikes law. Liberals have used the “life in prison for stealing a slice of pizza” line ever since, without noting he assaulted a minor.

When I see articles about life sentence for a slice of pizza stories I think two things:
1: How many crimes did he get away with, these were just the three he got caught and convicted of, could be hundreds.
2: The primary reason for prison is to keep these thugs off the streets. They have proven they are not fit to live in a civilized society. Let them live in prison. Rehabilitation is a feel good; we are doing something by showing them how to live in society. It rarely works.

Sorry, he is not serving life for a “Slice of Pizza.” He is serving life for proving he is a habitual criminal who can’t live within the confines of an organized society. Why should everyone else pay the price for his inability to conduct his life without victimizing everyone in his community?

Misleading headline. (Is there any other kind?) He is being punished for committing multiple offenses, the last of which may seem minor.

It’s a paradox for me. I support three strikes laws, but sometimes people get caught up in a rigid dogmatic system with no exceptions for the corner cases that always occur.

Three strikes if you aren’t an illegal immigrant (illegal entry into the country, falsified identity, etc.).

You have to ask whether such “defective units” are right for prison. They cannot seem to function in society without offending against others, but they are not psychiatric cases.

So perhaps the best bet is that they be minimum security prison institutionalized. Likely on a mostly vegetarian diet, so they will have a place to live before they die, that harms no one else. The only real offenses in such a place are if they hurt someone else, or they try to escape, either of which will get them put back in a real prison.
