Harry Reid just made President Obama a lame duck. With his triggering of the "nuclear option", he nuked any chances for any of Obama's legislative priorities through the 2014 elections.
Immigration "reform" -
Tax reform -
Any other Democrat priority -
And again on Nov 6, 2012.
Do you even need to ask that question?
They plan on stealing, openly and brazenly, every election they need. Mark my words. Every election they need will run just as every other election in recent times. They will pull out all the votes they need in the 11th hour.
WHO IS GONNA STOP 'EM?
Really? How are they going to do that? Take away his job, the way they did after he mumbled and bumbled his way through the government shutdown?
Oh, wait...I guess they gave him a standing ovation instead, didn't they?
You're not just dreaming, you're hallucinating.
The insurance companies will go wherever the money is, in the classic case of Capitalists selling the rope that’s then used to hang them.
So long as there’s the “guaranteed” bailout money, and they keep their contracts for providing insurance under various other governmental programs (like FEHB), they’ll do whatever Obama wants them to do.
Don't treaties require a two thirds majority affirmation of the Senate to become binding upon the U.S., or did they abolish that section of the Constitution while I wasn't looking?
Well then, we can agree to disagree.
Yes.
Just like our Republican leadership in Washington. Even while the Democrats slap, punch and kick them to pieces.
Look, I appreciate your courtesy and admire your optimism. I hope that you are right and I am wrong.
But it is my unwavering conviction that the scoundrel in the Whitehouse and the rest of the Democrats want to WIN every battle; while the Republicans merely want to scrape, grovel and crawl through each election.
They only need 51 to have a quorum, so without any rules to delay a vote, they can just bring it to the floor and vote it through with 2/3 present, when only have the GOP is there.
Treaties have always required a super-majority vote. I believe that is directly in the Constitution - not subject to Senate rules.
There is still SCOTUS. I know that doesn’t make most people here feel any better.
Yes, I'd forgotten about that. What a very, very dangerous situation we're in.
No. But it is very telling that the Senate Dems are so willing to go so far as to pee in the pool to ensure this unconstitutional abomination doesn’t get knocked down. They are going to kick, scream, and use every dirty and possibly illegal method at their disposal to protect this Act.
They only need 51 to have a quorum, so without any rules to delay a vote, they can just bring it to the floor and vote it through with ~40 votes when only a few GOP senators are there. That gives them a 2/3 Senate vote.
I admit that I can be overly optimistic at times, and this is probably no exception. If yesterday's events do not shake Republicans to their core, then nothing will.
Do you suppose that when the 2014 election puts the Republicans back in control the Democrats will reverse what they did yesterday??
