LIVE: Senate about to implode? Reid about to use the nuclear option?

All the action today appears to be in the Senate. They just finished voting on a motion to proceed to confirm one of Obama's nominees to the DC Court of Appeals, and it failed to get the necessary 60 votes to proceed. This is the 3rd nominee that the GOP has blocked, and Reid had threatened to go nuclear, to change the rules by a simple MAJORITY vote. Before that could happen, McConnell moved that the Senate adjourn until 5PM..a privileged motion which must be voted on. The roll call is underway.

Niels Lesniewski @nielslesniewski
For those following: voting NO on sustaining the ruling of the chair is the vote that gets rid of the filibusters.

History shows the lower the number is the more chaotic government becomes, having a higher number ensures that both parties work together no matter who is in the majority. You're right. I'm no big fan of George Will, but he once said something I agree with: Government gridlock is good. If a law cannot be agreed upon by both parties, then it probably isn't a good law.
Obamacare is a prime example of that.

They are actually going to pull the pin on this grenade.
If they'd do this, they'd do anything.
Anything, including genocide.

Where’s McCain’s Gang of 14 now!! He and his cronies prevented Bill Frist from doing what Reid is doing now.
But of course, I know the answer, because McCain and his cabal were in cahoots to prevent CONSERVATIVES from getting on the courts, while they are all for getting LIBERALS on the courts.

Leahy is still alive? We need term limits.

Actually if Reid goes nuclear, McConnel should bring up the bill from Congress to kill Obamacare. Let Reid kill that one without an up or down vote.
The media would go nuts.

Huge mistake here. HUGE. If they succeed, and it looks like they will, all hell will break loose.

Well, great idea, but they’re only voting on changing the “filibuster rules” for certain nominees!

McConnell could have shut this down by threatening to deploy a nuclear carpet bomb campaign for the Vitter Amendment.
If the Dems want to go nuclear then the only threat that will work for the GOP is a promise of MAD.
