Q: 150 years after President Lincoln delivered “The Gettysburg Address,” the speech is still celebrated. What other historic speech is as significant?

Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream”

John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address

Ronald Reagan’s “Tear Down This Wall” speech

Once upon a time, the Democrats rallied against the elites, the one percent. Their champion was William Jennings Bryan. This speech at the 1896 Dem. convention, spoke to the good versus evil angels in the party. The evil angels won but Bryant’s speech, Cross of Gold, was once recognized as one of the best in American history:

Actually, the most influential political speech I ever heard, the one that caused me to become a republican, was Ronald Reagan’s 1964 “A Time for Choosing” speech in support of Barry Goldwater, commonly referred to today by conservatives as simply “The Speech.”

It gives me chills even today when I hear it.

Lincoln’s 2nd Inaugural Address. “...

and Lincoln's message to congress before the emancipation

"Fellow-citizens, we cannot escape history. We of this Congress and this administration, will be remembered in spite of ourselves. No personal significance, or insignificance, can spare one or another of us. The fiery trial through which we pass, will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the latest generation.....We -- even we here -- hold the power, and bear the responsibility."
