I've noticed for some time now that the $20 bills dispensed from ATM's has been less than new. And that's being generous.
Less than 5% would qualify to fit into a gift envelope.
At least half of what I've received should have been incinerated! At least by standards I would think appropriate.
Does anyone here work in the ATM industry that can shed some light on the matter?
one thing I just noticed.
The bills aren’t always facing the same direction anymore.
just saying......
I got 20 20s today and they were fine.
A good sign that they are fake, North Korean, made to look old by artificial means.
All the good 20’s are being kept by the banks and distributed to Obama donors.
It’s because they are refilled from the same crappy $20 bills that were deposited earlier in the day. You gotta go in the branch to get the new ones. Those are too stiff to go into the machine.
Maybe the treasury is not recycling the bills as quickly as before. I know... it must be the sequester, blame the Republicans!
Theory:
I would guess that early ATM machines were only able to accurately dispense fresh bills, so the people packing money in the machines put fresh paper in there to make sure a “double feed” didn’t occur.
It’s expensive to accidentally dispense an extra $20 bill every so often.
Over time, banks have gained confidence in the machines to accurately dispense older bills.
So now the bills are older and uglier.
Send them to me....I’ll clean em up for you....
Were you at Crapital One?
Maybe they’re no longer destroying the bills, after a few years in use, like they used to. Helicopter Ben just saving ink in the printing presses?
I went to my bank and asked for new bills when cashing a check. The teller told me I’d get whatever came out of the dispensing machine that was at her side...
High tech robbery prevention.
...or Obambi is sending our currency to the Mooselimbs?
PNC
been going there for years and only recently ever saw the bills come out that way
You can’t get rid of a damaged or worn out bill in China. It is considered bad luck, so no one will accept it. You have to take it to a branch of the bank that issued it to get it replaced.
Here’s a theory:
They aren’t printing $20 bills anymore. Just $100s, $10,000s, $1,000,000s, $100,000,000s, $100,000,000,000s...
Gotta be ready for NEXT YEAR.

Now if only they could port that technology to regular copier machines.
