Corporations try to use social media to their advantage. Sometimes it works. Most times it fails. Some of those failures are spectacular. Case in point: Today's JP Morgan Chase "Twitter Takeover" of #AskJPM hosted by one of JPM's Vice Chairman.
Apparently, the social network still dislikes JP Morgan Chase and let them have it with a level of snarky disdain that caused JPM to "cancel the event", as if that were possible.

They have a corporate gay pride month though, thats gotta count for some points with the lefties.
How did anyone at JPM think this would turn out any differently?
Corporations are DYING to find ways use social media to help themselves. It’s a solution in search of a problem for them so they’ll take any opportunity to try and use it.
My guess: Someone saw some other company doing something similar and passed the idea up the food chain. It got “blessed” by upper management.
The people on the sidelines probably all saw this coming but once “upper management” had given its blessing, were either too scared to say something about it or their opinions were discounted.
On top of that, they also got “in trouble” by disagreeing with their bosses and having the temerity of being right.
