Coburn: DHS nominee Johnson used cribbed answers for confirmation hearing (Crib notes)

The Obama administration was accused Wednesday of providing cribbed answers to 23 questions in the form the Senate received for the hearing of its nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security -- as the nominee also ran into criticism from one senator who said he won't vote for him unless he makes a major border security pledge.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., got into a heated exchange with nominee Jeh Johnson, pressing him to commit to boost border security to 90 percent effectiveness. Johnson did not make the pledge. McCain said he, then, could not support his nomination.

That was after another senator, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, charged that the White House "cut and pasted" Johnson's responses to the committee.

Coburn, the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, charged at the start of Wednesday's hearing that some of the answers provided by Johnson are the same as those provided by previous nominees.

“These are the exact words [given] to the committee before,” he said. “We want to get your thoughts, not some legislative assistant's.”

Good Grief. Crib notes at a confirmation hearing. Are you kidding me? The Obama Administration hit rock bottom last week and this week they've started to dig.

Good Grief. Crib notes at a confirmation hearing.

That is not an accurate representation of what is being asserted..

You need to read the article again.

When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. The dear leader is only doing what comes naturally. A crib note, after all, is a mini TelePrompTer.

I don’t know, looks like crib notes or a cheat sheet to me. Sounds like he was also parroting Napolitano’s written Hill testimony.

This "cribbed" answers were provided in the form of a questionnaire in advance of Johnson's hearing.

He did not have crib notes at the hearing as you have suggested.

This type of approach has been used more than once........

Sebelius’ prepared opening statement identical to statement given by CMS head Marilyn Tavenner

You are correct. He copied and presented to the committee the same answers other nominees used. That’s just as pathetic if not worse.

It's obvious that being pathetic is a prerequisite for working (and I use the term working loosely) in Obama's White Hut.

Already positioning himself for a primary challenge? Some one's nervous.

Didn't Juan McCain already let on that he was interested in dumping all the border security portions of the immigration reform bill when it goes to conference?

Personally, I don't think doubling the number of BP agents is the right answers. Having Air and Marine (ever heard of them?) buy more Reapers definitely won't do it. Border security is a fluid problem. If you crack down on smuggling in cars through a port, they backpack it in. If you crack down on that, they fly it in, then they might start using commercial rigs. It is constantly changing and the localities change as well. A couple years ago all you heard about is Tucson. Now the hot zone is McAllen TX.

This clown is a go...

The long-time Obama supporter and former Defense Department general counsel would be the fourth Homeland Security secretary, if confirmed.

Johnson, a multimillionaire attorney who was largely unknown in homeland security circles, was greeted in the hearing room by a small group of protesters decrying his role as a former top Defense Department lawyer who authorized drone strikes abroad. Capitol Police officers quickly moved the protesters to the back of the crowded room as they chanted "no drone lawyer for DHS" and carried pink signs.

Johnson was nominated by Obama, and some have questioned whether he has the necessary law enforcement and management experience to run the more than 200,000-employee agency.

he will wear the clown hat next.

Johnson is black...so they probably figure on senators being afraid to vote against him for fear of being called racists.

Even that Miss Teen South Carolina contestant a couple of years ago provided her own answers.

It wants amnesty to be passed with the Cornyn Con.

If the border is 90% secure at a given point. You legalize 12 million plus illegals. That 90% attrition rate is going to get less and less as they surge across the border at a rate never seen.

My biggest fear would be Obama appointing someone hardass for the next 3 years.

@SteveKingIA

#Napolitano leaving DHS! Do you think I should send the president my resume? I can secure the border with current budget.

That’s because Babeu, Arpaio and the state of Arizona went after them and left them to La Raza Rick.

Arizona actually got a tiny bit more resources from Obama than they would have got if they “worked with the President”. Just call him out on letting Americans get killed and he has to give them a few more resources.

If most of the illegals had been forced into walking in, the problem would be smaller and the flow would be less per year.

If Kennedy’s amnesty bill passed Arizona and 10 other states would not be self deporting some illegals into other states and letting them attack their citizens.
