Getting married on a Tuesday probably will save money on a venue and caterer.

i don't think that you can bank on a kid becoming a conservative once they start working, if they are left unschooled in the reasons behind conservativism and what it stands for. look at all the myriad working liberals. i look at kids as empty vessels, and if you don't fill them with the right things as far as religion, ideology etc, the popular culture will fill that vacuum and they will become a reflection of the toxic popular culture. There are lib influences EVERYWHERE. if you don't teach your kid properly, someone else will do the job for you and you will have zero right to complain about it.

Anyone notice that today is 11/12/13?

I did. It's my oldest grandchild's birthday. She is nine. The youngest one is now four days old.

At 2:15 this afternoon, it will be 11/12/13 14:15. And, 16 seconds later---

No snow here yet.

(Houston, Texas area)

It’s cooled off a little since summer, though, so that makes for a lot of local pococuranteish outdoor activity.

I grew up in a rural area and our HS got off the first day of deer season.

Pococurante

It’s a little known fact of history that Pocahontas has a twin sister named Pococurante, French side of the family or something. However ...
Some claim this a fraud, sorta hocus pocos.

Evening wedding? “Candlelight” ceremonies used to be all the rage.

Besides, if your friends cannot take a day’s vacation to come to your wedding, you shouldn’t have to pay for a meal for them!

This area used to be home to fur farms. Many teen boys worked at the fur farms. When a fox escaped, they’d ring the town bell and the boys would all leave class and converge at one of the farms to try to capture the escaped fox. They also taught school in German half a day before WWII.

i heard that thousands are getting married today in order to have the date 11/12/13. Not worth it to get married on a tues IMO

My cousin got married on 10/11/12. It was a Thursday so I didn't make the trip to North Carolina.

my family and that of xshub all live in other states, when our daughter gets married next Sept, everyone is going to have to take time off to even get here for a Sat wedding, getting married in the middle of the week would mean taking much more time off. I think it’s ridiculous to do it just for the sake of a date.

case in point. i think it’s inconsiderate and you are placing the importance of a date over the convenience of your guests, meaning you don’t really give a dang if your friends and fam are there to share the day or not. telling! same with destination weddings, i guess. unless everyone you know is wealthy.

We got the same snow. Was out on a call last night when the rain turned to sleet then snow. Visibility was bad on the road as it was so heavy coming down. My poor car is covered.

I think part of the point is to limit the number of guests. Sure you invite them but you make it as inconvient as possible so they don’t come but do send presents.

yes, i am familiar with that MO, i guess. we will not send out the save the date cards to the ones they don’t care that much about coming. like his hockey teammates, which xsteen would prefer not show.
my peers and i are in the wedding throwing period of life now. a good friend’s daughter is getting married next weekend, xsboy’s childhood friend got married in Sept, and his mom is a good friend also. major concern is not having a drunkfest going on. we hope to mitigate that with a 10 am ceremony and noon to 4 reception. xsteen has gone on record as saying at her wedding she will personally toss anyone who goes overboard. she is wishing we were Baptist like her cousins and that we could dispense with alcohol altogether. we haven’t gotten to the point of needing to discuss whether to close the bar during dinner or not yet. xshub is a veteran of hosting events for his organization and he knows everything you need to know about stuff like that, so we will defer to his judgement.
