NBC has put a remake of that classic '80s TV staple "Murder, She Wrote" into development, but it turns out the show's original star, Angela Lansbury, isn't too pleased with the idea.
Lansbury, who starred as murder-solving mystery writer Jessica Fletcher for 12 seasons and four TV movies on CBS, recently told the Associated Press she's a fan of actress Octavia Spencer, who's set to star in the remake; she just wishes they wouldn't use the name.
Lansbury told the AP: "I think it's a mistake to call it 'Murder, She Wrote,' because 'Murder, She Wrote' will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person."

It was a great show.
It has been remade—they made the writer a man and younger—the show: Castle.
And the local sheriff couldn’t solve a case without her. Eventually everybody found out that wherever she went, a murder happened. So they started paying her to stay away. Show over.
That was a lousy choice and a big letdown movie wise. I would take those two bad CBS campy reunion movies over it any time.
the hope of movie and TV producers with remakes is (a) the formula of the original is still a good formula and (b) there are enough “new generations” of viewers that THEY won’t notice or won’t mind its not the original cast and crew
the more familiar we are with an “original” movie or TV show the less we are, usually, to appreciate a remake, and the less familiar with the original the less bothered we are by a remake; and those things are somewhat generational
yes it’s formulaic
it’s a business
Just like the Clintons.
The best part on Murder She Wrote was bringing back old movie stars. We loved to see our favorite stars, wrinkles and everything.
Lighten up, Angela.
Lets face it wherever she went people would mysteriously die.”
It was estimated that 2% of Cabot Cove was murdered over 12 years. That aside Angela Lansbury is a wonderful talent and it was nice to see some of Hollywood’s elder statesmen again.
Yeah, Cabot Cove had a higher murder rate (per capita) than Detroit...and Mrs. Fletcher was always arrived just after the corpse was discovered.
Maybe NBC will get it right and reveal Jessica Fletcher for what she really was...TV’s first serial killer.
Well, since she wrote it she has a right to be unhappy!
“Wild Wild West...with Will Smith as James West. /vomit”
How about “The Honeymooners” with Cedric the Entertainer as Ralph Kramden!
My recollection is the Amos and Andy series was a remake of the Amos and Andy radio show.
A little off topic (forgive), but I saw Angela Lansbury on Broadway as Mama Rose (Gypsy) in the 70s. She was...astonishing. What an actress. She was almost as good as Ethel Merman in the role (almost).
I still watch “Murder She Wrote” Monday through Friday night every week on the Hallmark Movie Channel. I love those well crafted movies. Besides, Jessica uses a set of my dishes, so I always feel included at her kitchen table!
“Euripides, Eumenides!”
