I have had an IPad 2 for years. It is literally crumbling. The IPad Air is pricey, and I have been checking other Tablets. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you.
Just got mine on Thursday .
As light as a mini , The screen size makes for a great relief now that I don’t have to enlarge to read the freerepublic site. Much brighter and much faster than a mini. Requires a CASE because it is slippery. Apps load 10X faster.
All in all, it is an incredible improvement over the “postage stamp”.
Not sure what you do with it but I have a kindle fire and I love it. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper.
LOL “crumbling”? Time to stop using the IFrisbee app...
We didn't own any Apple components until around mid 2009. Now Apple outnumbers PC/Andriod PC, tablet or phone devices combined.
We are big believers in the quality and utility. Treat yourself and enjoy.
I have one in 16 GB. Decided to go with the lower storage capacity because I do the cloud now. Love this iPad! Basically compare a hard cover to a paperback book as far as weight and comfort in using. Magnetic smart cover is better than the overall leather cover because it fits better. The only tiny issue that I have with it is when typing is noisier. I know that sounds weird but it seems to have a louder tapping noise when you type. I think it has something to do with the glass being thinner and the overall body being thinner. It is incredibly fast and has a beautiful screen. I also added an invisible shield HD screen protector.
Final word is I have had nearly every iPad since the beginning. This one is head and shoulders above the rest.
It has a volume control on the system sound effects if the virtual keypad clicks are bothering you. Most find them useful to know that a particular letter has been typed since there’s no tactile feedback from the glass.
Here’s a useful article/tutorial on system sound effects controls in iOS on iPad, iPhone, etc. from MacWorld:

Dittos on the conversion from PC. I started with the iPhone and saw how sturdy and easy it was to use. I then got an iPad 1 and before you know it had a MacBook and iMacs to replace all of my other computers. PCs now collect dust in my house. I will probably never go back to Microsoft/PC.
It’s not the sound effects. Thanks, but I know where that feature is. It is the sound of my fingers tapping. I only notice when I am tapping a long note. Most of the time I am using voice recognition anyway, but if I am in a loud room or don’t want to share what I’m typing/saying I will simply type out a note. Like I said, it is a very minor issue but I just noticed. No big deal.
Okay, its settled. You get a new iPad Air and Don’t Drop It.
I got one of the first 1st generation iPads in my area, it’s been a real trooper, for example it’s been pulled off the counter and frisbeed across the room when a dog managed to tangle with the wall charger cord, just scratches on the casing but no worse for wear otherwise. I”m going to get a new iPad Air, transfer the data plan and give this one to my ten year old niece, she loves the game apps and has no mobile device. Plenty of WiFi around, she’ll be thrilled.
Other than the aforementioned dog-disaster scratches on the casing, it’s not holding a charge quite as long now, but still several hours worth. It has a fair amount of useful life left in it. That’s been the case with every Apple product I’ve ever bought, they maintain their utility for a decade or more, if you don’t mind not having the latest, greatest thing all the time. I don’t care, personally, but if I’m getting a new one I usually get a good one with all the features since I know I’ll be living with it for a long time. I’m frugal about making things last but try to buy quality.
I am now approaching the age where the “quality” buys are excused because I say that this is the last one of these I will buy until I die.
I’m running with an iPad 4 right now. Later I’ll be considering an iPad Air. If I had a model earlier than the 4th generation - then I would be getting an iPad Air right away.
AND ... for all you other folks who don’t have an iPad - well ... it pretty much does 80% (or more) of what your desktop does. My iPad goes with me everywhere and I can keep up on my business (personal, that is ...) wherever I’m at.
An iPhone is useful in that regard, too — but the larger screen of the iPad is essential, I think.
Y’all get an iPad. You won’t be disappointed.
I have a nice, refurbished 32gb note 10.1 and love it. I got it for 389 online at best buy.
Android's open system leaves you *open* to malware. No thanks.
I’ve been researching. We need the wi-fi + cellular version, and we live in crap land. ATT sucks, Verizon works, so it will have to be Verizon for the Ipad, but for smart phones, we are hosed. We either have to pay exorbitant monthly rates, or have really spotty coverage.
Thanks for that link.
I understand. I only use it with wifi.
