How Will the ObamaCare Death Spiral End?
Self | November 9, 2013 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 11/09/2013 6:01:35 AM PST by PJ-Comix

We've all heard talk about the ObamaCare Death Spiral and now it appears we are in it with NO way out. Yesterday, Jeff Zients stated that fixing the ObamaCare website is much more difficult than anticipated and that it doesn't look like they will meet the goal of fixing it by Nov. 30.

So what will happen when, in a few weeks, it is obvious to all that ObamaCare is hopelessly broken? The problem of stubbornly sticking with ObamaCare is that meanwhile millions of people are losing their health insurance plans without being able (or willing) to get new policies. It is an emergency situation.

Is it possible that even Democrats (starting with Joe Manchin) would support REPEAL of ObamaCare? Yeah, I know they would hate to do that but like the Japanese at the end of WWII, do they have any choice but to surrender?

Yes, I know the end goal of ObamaCare was to go to Single Payer aka Socialized Medicine but I think the plan was to gradually phase into it. Obama and the Democrats did not expect ObamaCare to FAIL so fast so spectacularly. Therefore I don't think there is much possibility of going directly to Single Payer. To me the only option is the clean break of getting rid of ObamaCare which is now toxic via REPEAL.

I think starting next month we will again hear calls for repeal (delay won't work) from even Democrats. Slow at first but building to a crescendo as desperation sets in.

In the end, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee will have been proven RIGHT all along.

Force. State violence.

How will it end?

Probably exactly the way the lefties want it too....single payer, crappier coverage for the working middle class and intrusive regulation which is strictly enforced.

Obamacare is a throwaway. Insurance companies can reverse this anytime they want.

The goal is a permanent Democrat majority. Obamacare will be traded for amnesty and 11 million new Democrat voters. And the GOPe will jump on it because they want the cheap labor.

Once the majority is in place, the code to Obamcare will be dusted off and the switch will be thrown for single payer. And the loyal insurance companies will get a piece of the action.

No magic here.

If Obamacare is implemented as is, the system will “cull the hurd” of elderly, chronically ill, and those who do not ‘qualify’ for exemptions.

How do they go to Single Payer? Certainly not legislatively. The votes just aren’t there. Via Medicaid expansion? That would be one way but the Supreme Court gave the states the right to opt out and many of them did. Therefore I see no other option than ridding the country of ObamaCare via repeal. The Democrats would have no other choice. Oh, and for many reasons, delay is not really an option. It just gums up the situation even worse.

Obama will never sign a repeal. He will let the country burn first, so the alternatives are that veto proof majorities approve a repeal, remove Obama from office or, much more likely, the GOPe caves in the face of chaos and supports major steps to ease the transition toward single payer.

You are correct. There is no saving this monster. Repeal is the only solution. But how does one undo the damage rapidly so that those who have lost insurance are rapidly able to gain back their former plans? And single payor is not an option as Congress will never pass such legislation at this point. There could be no support for a governmental total takeover given the website ineptitude. Regardless, I see the next year or two as somewhat anarchical.

I don’t know how pricing was set but the plans need to be made more affordable again to reflect the lower than expected numbers signing up through the exchanges.

Who knows what may happen? As long as the GOP holds the House, there will absolutely be no single payer. I hope there will also be a “hold the line” approach to expanding the eligibility of those who get subsidies. 400%+ of the poverty line and getting a subsidy is outrageous, but that’s what Obama’s proposing!

One thing for sure is that we can’t go back to how it was and that’s a good thing, IMO.

For three years, anything and everything related to health care has changed as necessary to comply with the law.

My two cents is that this thing is going to crash in spectacular fashion. According to Gallup, only 1/5 of young, healthy people are choosing to be insured. As premiums rise because of the high risk pool who does sign up, more healthy people will drop out. That’s the death knell.

It will take the wisdom of Solomon to make lemonade out of the lemons resulting from this law. I’m high on Dr. Carson as a potential GOP candidate or at least in a Cabinet position. His ideas and experience will be sorely needed.

Medicare and Medicaid patients are going to be screwed because less and less health care providers will take those patients. They lose money on them.

Two positive outcomes to this will likely be:

1. Health insurance will be divorced from employment and people will be able to actually see the costs.

2. There will be a big increase in concierge or fee for service medical practices. That coupled with the option of a catastrophic policy (currently not available because of all the Nobamacare mandates) will be much cheaper options than the current mess.

Rats will double down and that will be fun to observe.

It only takes a few DESPERATE Democrats to support repeal for the dam to break. Yes, that was unthinkable...until now. And in a few weeks that will appear to be the ONLY solution. It’s like a person who absolutely hates dogs but if he is drowning will definitely grab onto a Golden Lab if one is swimming by.

I don’t know how pricing was set but the plans need to be made more affordable again to reflect the lower than expected numbers signing up through the exchanges.

Insurance companies based their rates on the risk pool they anticipated would sign up. They don't just arbitrarily set the rates so people can afford them. They set the rates to make a profit or at least break even.

If healthy people don't sign up, rates will be INCREASED, not lowered, as the risk pool will be too heavily weighted with sick people or heavily subsidized people.

The smartest thing the dems could do is realize that not only is Obama incompetent and dumb, he's totally incapable of managing anything. Besides that, his fellow travelers are getting entrenched in government positions, and they aren't easily going away.

What's my point? They've all been played, especially the US Senate, by a street hustler who only cares about winning so as not to lose respect. The best thing they could do right now, to get control of the party back, would be to abolish Obamacare, open clinics to use pay-as-you-can with everyone paying at least something so the mess can sort itself out, and try getting the economy back in control by ending the stimulus.

Why should they smarten up? Because there are no young dems developing leadership potential while Obama does what's best for his buddies. Does anyone really think his mean team expects hillary to be the next nominee? Of course not....I'm age compatible and can see the signs of aging, with health issue and mannerisms, that she won't be great on the campaign trail. They've probably got a "plan B" of Cory Booker or someone similar to fill in.

Follow my reasoning. The only way out of this mess is to do something about the US Senate, both political parties. Ted Cruz tried for 21 hours. They're letting Obama destroy the nation, waddling in their delusions of wisdom and importance. I believe that's called useful idiots.

What we need, as I think and type at the same time, is a "gang of..." however many in the US Senate that can get the best minds together and end Obamacare.

It won't happen. The result....we're going to have to take care of our own medical well being as individuals. Medical care will not be safe, dependable, or affordable. JMHO

I live with MassHealthCare. It works because it is massively underwritten by the Federal Government.

We just need some larger organization to underwrite the costs of ObamaCare and all will be well. /S

Well, first I think we’re over playing the hand a bit. We risk giving the voters a sense of immunity.

How will Obamacare end?

The administration will stubbornly keep moving forward. Absorbing the day by day negative news, but steadily making progress. The GOP will continue to flagellate and more pre-occupied with putting down the Tea Party rebellion.

Somewhere in the August to Sept timeframe Obamacare will be declared fixed and this will be supported full heartedly by the liberal stream media, mitigating the chorus of negativity from the GOP.

GOP 0 gain in the Senate
GOP -11 loss in the house.

With the Tea Party starting to make inroads and gaining some clout.

Obamacare will continue on, becoming incrementally more encompassing, at some point the political time bombs left behind by Obama will go off (the exemptions expiring), but Obamacare will continue on until eventually it’s replaced by a ‘one system’ solution. While this is happening Health Insurance companies, will start to fall like domino’s, until the final solution of a one payer system is implemented.
