Reaction to the news about Jeff Cogen's alleged pot and cocaine use runs the gamut from outrage to a lack of concern best summarized as, as long as he got his work done.
/snip/
Recent polls show most Americans think pot should be legal, and many states including Oregon are taking steps in that direction.
But what does that mean for public officials? Should public officials be allowed to smoke pot while holding office? Is cocaine a different matter?
Take our reader poll to weigh in.

Of course, Oregon doen’t care. They can’t be bothered to stop illegals from having pot farms in the middle of their state parks.
Yes. Leave that to the celebrities.
Government’s job is to uphold the constitution. Hard to do that when you’re twitching and having visions of Bob Marley making you a Jamaican breakfast.
Now, now. The illegals have to run the pot farms because those racist whiteys won’t employ them!
Do you want those who take care of society’s important matters to be in chemically altered states of consciousness?
Would you want your dentist on chemicals?
Would you want your lawyer or daycare provider on chemicals?
Would it be ok if your children were on chemicals?
Thank you for voting!

Personally, I don’t care what people do to themselves, but it has been my personal experience that the vast majority of drug users, including those who stick with marijuana, prioritize their drug use over everything else and will do what it takes to support their habit, including steal.
No surprise there, it certainly was no secret that Caliph Baraq was a Choom Ganger....
Is this poll just focused on Obama, or does it include other politicians??
I have NEVER met an adult who regularly used Pot, who was not lazy, dull, often unemployed, or just plain stupid. To adjust the old cliche “the pot makes the man.”
Frankly, I’d like them to use cyanide.
Crack is OK if the mayor is in Toronto. I’m OK with that.
If it does not impact their job performance, i am WAY past the point of caring about anything they do at all on their own time as long as it does not involve causing severe harm, bodily or otherwise, to anyone else. It is about getting people who can do their job properly.
I thought the illegals ran the pot farms on public property so that users could buy fair trade pot from an impoverished minority.
Alcohol, nicotine, marijuana on one’s own time is their business. There’s nothing recreational about cocaine. It should remain illegal.
Would you vote for a public official who uses marijuana?
Yes. 59.95% (488 votes)
No. 33.17% (270 votes)
I don't know. 6.88% (56 votes)

Yeah, but no doubt with time, evil Monsanto will put GMO in the pot and spoil it for all the hippies.
I don’t know. I used to be somewhat friends with a camera technician who had some very recreational nights with crack.
