Quitting Business 2013... Opting Out

Word has been getting around that I am "retiring"; this is not true. I am quitting in disgust and sadness that the criminal entity I am paying taxes to is demonstrably not a legitimate government. This is the one means I have of legally striking back, by eliminating my income. This is a one-man general strike — all who wish to join me are welcome. My hope that we can stop the current lurch towards WWIII rises and falls each day.

An order came in recently with the note "We will miss you". As much as I appreciate that sentiment, my first thought was "Not nearly as much as I miss my country". Because I understand how slowly the wheels of history turn, I'm not expecting a restoration of the American Republic within a timeframe that would allow me, at my current age, to resume making Weed Wrenches. However, miracles have been known to happen and I would be delighted to help a new constitutional government get the economy moving again. In the meantime I have plenty of long-delayed projects to keep me busy, none of which will earn any taxable income. My whole life has been lived in the spirit of "voluntary simplicity". Now I am simply moving on to full-blown "opt-out".

I have talked to many customers about this in the last few months, and the feedback has been 100% supportive in spite of their disappointment. I have always found Weed Wrench customers to be more aware than average citizens, and now they are proving that again with their understanding. I regret the inconvenience I am causing to the people who need Weed Wrenches who won't get them, and I regret the harm I will do to the businesses that I do business with at a time when they need every customer they can get. But without a free country to live in, none of this makes any difference anyway.

I have spent a lifetime reading history. If I have a special area of interest it would be WWII and the era leading up to it. We can see clearly in hindsight what steps were gone through to create the fascist police state and the counter-measures which the German people did not take to prevent it. We, the American people in 2013 cannot plead ignorance as we see our government taking the same series of steps. If we do not stop this, it will be to our nation's eternal shame. — TN

I do admit Galt is a protest having done as much myself 5 years ago but Bozo don’t care. In fact it is win-win for him.

You don’t have to make it, you just have to have it. When they keep on printing money, they are stealing the value of any money you have.

They can make the money in your wallet worth less than it was an hour ago. In that hour they add $87 Billion a month to the coffers of the Feral Gummint. I repeat. They don’t need to take your money to take your money.

With the Fed printing phony money they don’t have to actually take your money to take your money...

That is the Truth.

But I suspect that money will not be worth much in the near future. Survival skills and supplies and the proper attitude to survive will be what is needed most.

“I think the next “big” group to “quit” will be scores of doctors.”

In our area, many MDs started opting out this year. Both newer docs and established docs.

New MDs faced with the math of how to keep their offices open, pay the salaries for their staff, pay off their med school debts and have a decent life style have gone to Kaiser.

Many MDs in their 40’s to 50’s have gone to concierge medicine or will be in it as of 1 Jan 2014. In their new life, there will be no insurance acceptance nor billing. Flat yearly fees in advance for a year or quarterly. The average yearly fees are running from $2400 per year to $3600.

One new concierge doc in this area, a woman has apparently filled her new 2014 concierge practice and is charging $2,000 per month. We have been hearing about similar yearly costs in the Stanford area, Silicon Valley, high rent areas like the Gay Frisco Area, marvelous Marin and East Bay.

Some, older MDs, just said to heck with it and have closed their offices or will be ending their practices this month. Many of those leaving the area, have taken advantage of the recent surges in the prices of homes in this area and sold their homes. Then, they left the area with few people, if anyone knowing that they had moved and left the area.

The impact of the docs who have left and those who will be leaving between now and 1 Jan 2014 is unknown.

A two man practice with a full time FP, a senior part time FP, and a full time PA, closed this summer. This practice had a little over 6000 active patients. Active = patients seen in the last year.

The long time RN and receptionist from that office are still running into people complaining that they can’t phone the office to get an appt.. Apparently, those people didn’t read the two letters they got re the practice being closed, one letter from the two docs & PA and one from their group. This area goes through an epidemic of wellness from July until about now. So the impact of the two docs no longer there will be get more severe each day from now on until next summer.

It’ll be a lot more Oktober revolution than that.

Half of America will cheer too, for a short time. Until reality sinks in. A lot like Russia 1917.

Oooohoooo! Thank you for posting about the pullerbear! Please let me know how you like it. I hope the full welds can hold up to the job! I may just have to get one of these for my birthday or for a Christmas gift. We have a honeysuckle hedgerow but I would probably be using it mostly for all the baby trees and mulberries that pop up. I wonder if it will work on a japanese quince that is becoming invasive.

“When the time comes, the noose will tighten so quickly, 1935 will become 1938 in about 3 weeks.”

Yes,so maybe we all need to think old school and start raising pigeons and doves to send correspondence and be prepared to barter.

My wife’s brother-in-law changed to cash (no insurance) a couple of years ago. His wife, who is a nurse, staffs the office....that’s his entire office. He accepts no insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, etc., only cash, check or credit card. He issues detailed receipts which patients may send to the appropriate place for reimbursement at whatever rates they pay.

He has reduced the rates charged by 50% or more and is making more money. Recently he went into semi-retirement and still makes more than he did before the converted over.

You don’t show for or call in advance to cancel appointments you risk being dropped as a patient (a significant problem with Medicaid & Medicare patients which is why most doctors double or triple book).

I will be emailing your reply to a couple of Docs who have retired or will be.

They could be really bored after Christmas.
