But there has been a disturbing development over the most recent episodes. Suddenly Dora is less interested in having adventures in jungles, outfoxing grumpy trolls under bridges and doing everything that, in conventional cartoon world, would normally be done by the boy.

Now, all of a sudden, at almost every opportunity, she’s swapping her androgynous shorts and T-shirt combo for a ballerina’s outfit of a pretty dress.

My guess is it is spineless parents who have been indoctrinated into believing that a 5 year old can make decisions for themselves ... or mommie wanted a little girl and has been nurturing this.
I was helping out with a fundraiser for a friends school over the summer. I ran into one of my wifes friends who is recently divorced and had her 5 year old kid with her. Later when my wife got there, I told her, her friend had stopped by with her daughter. My wife rolls her eyes and says that is her son and apparently the divorce so screwed her up that she started dressing her son as a little girl.

Probably is. Show her for so long as being just like a boy and then dress her in girlie clothes. What fun for any boy! These people disgust me.

When the grandsons visit, there is no TV. I have them so busy running around outside getting decent exercise that they almost never even think of TV. One out of 20 visits, the older one mentions it, but I just tell him that TV is for fat, lazy, dumb kids. And he is then off to his next adventure.

Unfortunately, there are far too many adults who let the TV babysit for them, and the perverts who make some of the programs know they have a captive audience. Scary.
