The American Dream, Just an Illusion
Canada Free Press ^ | 10/31/2013 | Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh

As a teenager, I used to day dream about escaping the oppressive communist society where we lived. I did not have a passport and a snowball chance in hell of getting one, I did not have any money, and our travel was restricted to a 20- mile radius, as far as our feet could carry us, as far as the rickety government-run buses would transport us, and as far as our pocketbooks allowed. We were so poor though, the wind whistled through our pockets most of the time.

I hid in Grandpa’s tall corn fields or in the woods by my favorite creek to do my deep thinking and planning. I could not afford to day dream in school. I was afraid the security agents, teachers, and the community organizers in the neighborhood that kept us in check around the clock would be able to read my thoughts, or I would blurt something out that would give my thoughts away and get me and my family in trouble. Under communism, parents were responsible and guilty for their children’s deeds and anti-communist thoughts, statements, or unapproved behavior. Many careless comments by children with loose tongues sent their parents to Jilava or Siberia.

Kinda makes you think that someone may be monitoring your every move. Current conditions in the US must remind Dr. Paugh of her younger years in Romania. Thanks doc for telling it how you see it. (If I like Dr. Paugh, can I keep her?):>)

As a child I lived for a year in communist Yugoslavia and a lot of what I see here now bears a striking resemblance.

I have spoken to several elderly US citizens who grew up in Russia and Germany during the Stalin and Nazi period. They are, to a person, absolutely convinced the Democrat party is carrying out the identical pogrom that led to 10’s of millions of their former compatriots being slaughtered. Make no mistake. We are poised on an abyss that will destroy freedom globally. Count Obama among the great oppressors of modern history.

As I was reading the first paragraphs, I was thinking "these are the people we want to allow to come here, they understand and appreciate it, unlike the illegals who are just here to grab what they can..."

Then I got to her paragraph where she points it out in remarkable clarity.

How 'bout that.

I know a guy who came here in the 50s from a communist country. I’ve never known anyone who’s more liberal. I don’t get it.

I know a guy from Bulgaria; he’s an engineer who got here by swimming 10 hours in the Black Sea, mostly at night to avoid the patrol boats. He lives in my precinct. Votes in every election. He knows the value of freedom. He’s also active in a local swim club.
