Okay folks... I've had this eating at me for a couple of years and am to the point that I am seeking help from my FReinds.
Here is the deal... When I was a kid growing up in the late 1960's, there was a television commercial/PSA that was nothing more than a male voiceover and slow motion video of a hydrogen bomb explosion. Other than the voiceover, the only sound was a gong being struck everytime another "blossom" of the explosion would flare.
Does anyone else remember this? If so, does anyone with a better memory than mine have any further details on what was being said? The commercial mesmerized me at my age, and I was more interested in watching the explosion than in listening to the man's voice. It may have been some left-wing anti-nukes ad for all I know... But I am trying to find a video copy of it to show to my 9 year old son. I want him to understand the differences in the times we grew up.
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU MIGHT PROVIDE!!!
It is on Netflix too. Highly recommended, should be seen by every American.
I don’t remember that ad, but while it’s not what you’re looking for, this is a fun one (!) from the very early years of the Atomic Age. It’s designed to teach elementary school kids how to “do a good job” as part of the atomic team:

Burp.
Excuse me.
Ever ride in a bug in a snowstorm, 20 below, the heater was never designed for winter, much less, a march on Moscow. Trussst me. :-)
I remember this one.
I remember a similar one of a little girl licking an ice cream cone. A voice over tells of all the bad things about radioactive fallout, then at the end the nuke goes off.
“A Volkswagon will definitely float, but it will not float indefinitely.”
I’ve had VWs and Corvairs. I liked thumbing my nose at Death when I was young.
Also the 1968 campaign commercial with the black and white of spiro agnew and some in the background laughing hysterically
I remember the one about drugs.
Went something like. Come on little kiddies gather around the man with the goodies is here. Here’s a little beauty for you to snooty just sniff......Airplane glue causes brain damage.
At 10 before the news every night. “it is ten o’clock, do you know where your children are?”
Nope... I know that album well. My brother was 9 years older and was a drummer. He used to sit and play the entire drum solo from In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida when he was a freshman in high school. I thought it was cool... Mom and Dad thought he was restarting the record over and over again because the solo went so long. They tolerated it, but just barely. My brother had the coolest garage band in town...
Chief Jay Strongbow?
That might be the one, but would they have aired it over a period of years after the election? I would not have been able to have seen it during the 1964 elections...
Me too. That windshield was right in front of our noses too.
Nothing else, no engine. Whenever I climbed behind that black, plastic wheel with the Wolfsburg emblem on the horn ring, I always considered myself to be like an Aztec sacrifice held down on an altar.
Only difference was I had to scrape the windshield with nylon net this time of the year to get the frost off (inside) so Death could see me.
The Daisy ad was approved by Bill Moyers now of PBS.
heh.
Iron Eyes Cody, aka Espera Oscar de Corti
It was much talk about, I am sure there were special political discussion shows that brought it up occasionally.
