I dumped cartridges for a DE (double edged) razor 2 years ago. Best shaves I’ve ever had. Much closer than ANY cartridge. 10c per blade (box of 100 is $10 on Amazon and a good DE razor runs about $30-40). Replace the blade about 1/week.

Only drawback is that you can’t carry on plane.

Closer is not necessarily better. Both hubby and son break out if they get too close. (Doesn’t matter how they do it or what they use for aftershave, they get ingrown hairs.)

We’ve found that single or twin blades work great. No bumps.

But finding good blades are hard to do. We like the old Gillette Sensor. They’re phasing them out, so I bought a ten year supply from Amazon.

I switched from a Norelco to a DE about the same timeframe. Got an old 50's razor off ebay.

Used an electric for decade because they were supposedly better for your skin, but I find the DE gives less ingrown hairs and skin irritation.

I've nicked myself twice in two years (and in the same spot) being in a hurry after oversleeping. But I'd never go back to electric or multiblade.

There's something appealing about shaving the same way as my father and grandfather did, and a nice metal razor just feels better than a disposable plastic dodad.

I got my son a DE blade and some good shaving soaps and he swears by them.

The price is right too.
