In a nation obsessed with the right now, few things have held up over the past 50 years as well as the Ford Mustang. The first pony car debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair and instantly became a tent pole of Americana. Before the model officially turns 50 on April 17, 2014, Ford will celebrate its lasting contribution to the postwar-boom culture with a brand-new, much anticipated Mustang.

But the times, they are a changin’ (yep, a song also released in 1964). Ford’s American icon continues to gain offshore admirers. The Blue Oval plans to sell the next Mustang globally, and to appease overseas buyers, the car will need to be lighter and more efficient. But that’s not to say that traditional fans will be disappointed.

I’m sure there’s a kit out there. There’s a BRZ running Pirelli World Challenge, and that car has a supercharger.

On my way home from work today I turned off the traction control and simply floored it (it’s a manual, btw) and it fishtailed so bad when I shifted into second gear I almost went off the road.

I confess I should have had both hands on the wheel, though. First time I ever turned off the traction control. I gotta get some practice in...

There is a video of an FRS with an aftermarket turbo. It’s pretty funny. 450 hp:

You would want stickier tires, though.

The 2005 Mustang was beautiful. The world is full of egg shaped androgynous vehicles. Is is so bad that a handful of vehicles do not forgo all "angles" for aerodynamic purity? Jeez just make all cars the same and be done with it.

PS: The rounded corners on almost all of today's cars only decreases the aerodynamic coefficient by a tiny amount at a cost of all vehicle personality.

I wonder how I survived all these years.

In my day no Seat Belts, no ABS, no Radial Tires, no Traction Control, no Padded Dashboard, no 5mph Bumpers, no Disc Brakes and just an AM Radio.

Oh the Humanity. LOL

Way back when I had an early year Porsche 911. That engine hanging out in back made for some interesting experiences. At least it had 4 wheel disc brakes.

Great car. If I could fit in it, I would have bought one when they came out.

My 99 Cobra made 315 HP, 32 Valve hand built engine. The Independent Rear Suspension really sucked and it wasted the Torque. Kept the car one year, sold it and moved on a very disappointed former Ford owner.

I ended up buying a 2011 Base Mustang. Needed a car after I got crunched driving my Wife’s Car. Picked up a one only Loss Leader and never looked back.

Compared to the 99 Mustang Cobra Fox Platform, it’s night and day. The 2011 is actually fun to drive and I have plenty of room in it. I’m about 6’3” , 235. Very comfortable seats, plenty of leg and headroom and for the base Car, it was a great deal.

Thinking about the next Car. I can get a deal on a 2014 Mustang GT, but I think I need a change of scenery.
Luckily, no kids to put through College. LOL

It needs 2 large round headlights in the front grill.

Nice. One of my friends has a Factory Five Cobra with a 427.
That’s scary too.

The 1600 screaming ccs in my old Miata are enough for me these days, LOL.
