"It's running well above normal," said Matt Rogers, president of Commodity Weather Group, a commercial forecaster in Bethesda, Md. "Through the last week of September, it's the highest snow total in Eurasia since 1977."

The outage caught me in the shower, too, all soaped up and suddenly blind, with the water pressure slowly decreasing. Flashlight was across the room. I'm lucky to be alive... ;-)
I remember that 77 was a nasty winter; it was the first year that I was stationed at Minot ND.
69-70 was also pretty damned cold and snowy. After weeks of -20 average temps it made going to boot camp at MCRD SD seem like a tropical vacation. I was getting my ass beaten every day but at least it was warm(er).
Cold winters are relative to your geographical location during any particular period of time.
There will be NO snow this winter, there will just be “crystalized rain.” The blessed Algore tells us that it is to warm to snow in the winter due to his warming globull.
(Please note this statement is sarcastic)
It’s been a while since I’ve heard the term “Alberta clipper” or “SIBERIAN EXPRESS” used for a cold front headed our way.
***1977 was a monster year for snow and cold!***
I remember that year! I also remember March 14, 1968.

Phoenix AZ prides itself on never having snow. One year they did get, what they called, “soft sleet”.
I recall it vividly. I would not go on my brother’s paper route again after one time in the cold and snow for 3+ hours. As a 5 year old kid, it was brutal. Looking back on it now, I’m surprised that I didn’t lose my feet. I never remember being that cold since - my feet hurt for at least 4 hours after that.
Brats...and onions.
The night of December 28-9, 1982, Ft. Huachuca got 12-15 inches of ‘soft sleet’ from a storm that came in from Mexico that stalled over El Paso.
winter weather alert
Copious amounts of chocolate for the Mrs.
Trust me:)
We need their model, because it has been far more accurate than official “climate expert” models, and has been for around a century.
Don't know about your area, but we are long overdue. When I first moved up here 21 years ago, it began snowing in November and did not stop until April. By January, I could no longer see my neighbor over the snow banks. I was told this was a rare winter. The following winter was even worse, culminating with a blizzard in mid March that dumped an additional 27" on top of the 3' already accumulated. The builder sent in backhoes to clear our driveways. It's been fairly quiet ever since.
Bring it on!!
A few years ago there was a study that had the Farmers Almanac right at 50%, Weathermen right at 47% and I would guess that gorbull warming is right less than 1%.
The power out in the shower thing. I hate that when that happens.
Big chore for the day was switching out the regular watering tubs and buckets for the heated ones. Hard freeze tonight.
I think you’ve got it covered, although my taste runs to well-aged single malts.
Yeah, I know. I'm stuck in Moscow with the well-house heater not tested yet. It's been fine the last couple of years but the first hard freeze is always a nervous time. Now I'm online looking for a decent kerosene lantern. The lamps I have aren't really for outdoor use.
FReepers, any suggestions? I'm partial to the Kirkmans but anyone else's experience will be welcome information.
