I do.....grew up Skins fan.
I bet Landry cleaned up that dusty hat as soon as they called, “cut!”
This is a guy who spent his 21st birthday dropping bombs on Berlin from a B-17.
It played right after the Redskins beat the Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game.
I miss Tom.
One of the greatest games ever played. Riggins carried the 'Skins with 140 yds and 2 TDs.
I miss having an owner who didn’t try to be the GM.
As a Redskins fan, I also miss Tom Landry. When the ‘Skins beat the Cowboys in his era, it felt like a real accomplishment.
Love or hate them at least you had to respect them during the Landry/Staubach days. Now just the opposite.
How terribly offensive this must have been in 1982? No Pc BS then but now they have taken over!
Yes, I do remember that commercial. ;-)
I was never a Cowgirls fan but admired Coach Landry because he was a B-17 pilot in Europe during WWII. He was 19 years old at the time.
The current generation of owners ... all wealthy individuals ... stand to learn from the old days.
Trivia Fact:
That bit at the end where he says “Do I know you?” is not rehearsed. Landry actually DID recognize the man in that uniform.
It was former Pittsburgh Steeler Ernie Holmes, who had fallen on hard times in his life after his little shooting escapade with the Ohio Highway Patrol. He had taken a job as an extra and Landry recognized him.
Looks like American Express didn’t find Redskins offensive either.
Sorry, I was totally distracted watching him ‘hitch’ his horse and had to watch again to see the rest of the pitch.
Some ‘cowboy’ ... LOL
