> They are so well taught in acedemia that reality has no place and dont ever question what is, just follow happily. This, much like the surprise many zombies are getting with his healthcare scam. This is our comedy relief, how much did you or your parents pay for reprograming.............I mean college? Most of us got it for free by asking tough questions with a high school diploma

There’s a reason for the old saying “those who can’t do, teach”

Way back in the Lyndon Johnson years, the government started paying women to have babies out of wedlock. Of course, this was not the aim of the government, but it’s how it turned out.

The bleeding hearts felt bad for the young girl/woman who had a child with no father in the home, and no one to help pay for food and rent.

That was a “feel good, liberal thing” to do. And of course, it sounded ok on the surface.

It wasn’t long though, before a lot of people figured out how to game the system. For each child out of wedlock, with no father to help support it, the woman’s welfare check was increased. She would then give a portion of the increase to the father of the child—but, according to the rules, the father could not be living in the home—or the welfare checks would stop.

Think about this-—our “feel good” liberal government, way back in the 50’s started this program.........and it’s still going on today. In large numbers. Several generations of Americans have large populations of people who don’t know who their fathers are, have no ambition to improve their lives, and are satisfied to live off of the taxpayers of their fellow countrymen.

I saw something similar with a couple donating for a new building for their favorite charity—that then got caught up in all sorts of ADA red tape and restrictions.

That was a one-time thing, however, and it hasn’t affected their politics.

I have a aggravation fee I use. for every visit to a Govt. office or filing Govt. paperwork for permits, sign-offs, fees etc. the cost of the job rises dramatically, it's amazing how many people decide to do the job under the table when I explain the cost structure to them.

There was a leftist writer who married into an Asian Family and bought a corner store in some borough of NYC. It was a true learning experience for the poor sap.

I wish I could remember the title.

My mother was widowed in 1938 with a 2 year old and a 5 year old——she went without, took typing and shorthand at a local high school, and worked hard for the next 40 years.

They were different times.

Yes—different times indeed.

My father worked as a bus driver all his life—drove from Beaumont to Galveston (TX) and back every day except Wednesday, which was his day off.

There was a morning run, and an afternoon run. In order for Dad to get his one day off a week, he had to pull a double (make two runs on Tuesday, so the other driver could have his one day off.)

For many years, Greyhound tried to unionize the small company my dad worked for.

That many years back (40’s and 50’s) my dad refused to join a union. If he had done so, he would have made more money, and have some paid time off-—but he was so opposed to unions, that he wouldn’t even consider joining one.

As a family of 5, we made it just fine with what we had, and it taught my 2 brothers and I something about having principles and sticking to them.

From the now deceased former Senator George McGovern...

"In retrospect, I wish I had known more about the hazards and difficulties of such a business, especially during a recession of the kind that hit New England just as I was acquiring the inn’s 43-year leasehold. I also wish that during the years I was in public office, I had had this firsthand experience about the difficulties business people face every day. That knowledge would have made me a better U.S. senator and a more understanding presidential contender.

He goes on to talk about how all sorts of crazy regulations, that may have appeared to make sense to the politicians passing them, were actually serving to create a huge headache for businesses -- often because whoever is writing the laws has no idea what they're talking about: In short, “one-size-fits-all” rules for business ignore the reality of the marketplace. And setting thresholds for regulatory guidelines at artificial levels — e.g., 50 employees or more, $500,000 in sales — takes no account of other realities, such as profit margins, labor intensive vs. capital intensive businesses, and local market economics."
