In an interview, he says he got interested in guitar via interest in electronics. He was experimenting with how to get certain (electric) guitar sounds.

IOW, electronics came before the guitar, and maybe he wouldn't have taken an interest in guitar without an interest in electronics.

From what I've read, he's a stand-up guy. A factoid pretty well know in guitar circles, Walsh sold Jimmy Page the Les Paul that appears in most Led Zeppelin works and photos.

Turn to Stone (cover)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xs1E15M0SA

Hey now the well run dry
Pages of the book on fire
Read the writing ...on the wall...

Hoedown, say showdown
Everywhere you look
they’re fighting...Hear the call...

And you know its getting stronger,
It can’t last very much longer
Turn to stone

Well there’s a change in the wind
You know the signs don’t lie
Such a strange feeling and I don’t know why
Its takin’ ... such a long time ...

Backyard people and they work all day
Tired of the speeches
And the way the reasons they keep changin’...
Just to make the Words Rhyme...

And you know its getting stronger,
Can’t fake ‘em out much longer
Turn to stone

And you know its getting stronger,
It can’t last very much longer
Turn to stone

Had a friend in California who worked for the company that managed Joe Walsh's investment portfolio. Walsh would call him occasionally, totally stoned, and want to discuss "how his money was doing". That this would happen early in the morning didn't surprise anyone. The drugs had taken their toll.

When I lived in Santa Barbara, Walsh and friends (old Barnstorm members if I recall) would play every New Year's Eve at the Biltmore Hotel. You had to get there early to see the show as Joe never made it till midnight. Someone would usually come to the mic at 10:30 or 11:00 pm and apologize for Joe being unable to continue.

No, I know it. We never played there, but played Jackson, Houghton Lake, Alpena, Soult St. Marie, Lansing, Flint, and almost everywhere else.
