I had never really given it any thought but now that you mention it, I have two Domke photographers vests which would be useful for carrying a lot of gear. They have a lot of pockets but even better, many of the pockets are large.
They are pretty comfortable to wear too, even filled with lenses, filters, batteries, camera bodies etc.

I have a fishing vest I wear on long road trips. When you go through a drive through, toll booth, etc. it’s easier to have your wallet in your chest or stomach area than to try and fish it out of a pants pocket while in the driver’s seat. Similarly, cell phone in the breast pocket, smokes, lighter, etc.

Good suggestion. After thinking about this for a bit that was what came to my mind also - a photog vest.
Durable, lots of easy access pockets and made for carrying lots if little, but important, things.
Also, maybe a very durable "safari"- type jacket. I've seen some of those with a number of extra pockets.
