Hardly inconspicuous. Would you like a big red target for the back?

Good article. I thought I had a survival vest, but it is lacking quite a few things now!

Pilots wear vests for that very purpose. Here in the mountains I prefer a Blackhawk Omega Elite Medic/Utility Vest as a survival vest. According to crash stats, there is a 90+% chance that in a crash any bag in the back will not be accessible.

great article Hugin.....I'd recommend a vest that has a large ‘back’ pocket such as bird hunters use...good for what have you. And being camo you can sew in inside pockets to fit other items without being noticeable...

I had never really given it any thought but now that you mention it, I have two Domke photographers vests which would be useful for carrying a lot of gear. They have a lot of pockets but even better, many of the pockets are large.
They are pretty comfortable to wear too, even filled with lenses, filters, batteries, camera bodies etc.

For safety reasons, these weapons are carried without a loaded chamber. For safety reasons, I ALWAYS have one in the chamber. Nothing like alerting game with racking a round or meeting a predator who does have one in the pipe.

About 25 years ago, maybe 30 years ago, field and stream or outdoor life, or some magazine had made up one of these.
It was in a cotton duck game vest and they did not have the guns, and had fishing gear (lures, hooks, weights, line and leader, etc) and did have a couple of small survival blankets.
If I remember without the guns it was lighter. I wish I could find that series of stories.. it was cool back then and still would be today.

I appreciate the thoughtful post.
However, be advised that the vest in question at the link DOES NOT EXIST.
