The NAVY's first supercarier, The U.S.S Forrestal is officially heading for the scappers as the NAVY awarded the contract to All Star Metals of Brownsville Texas. All Sta Metals won the bid to scrap the former carrier with a 1 cent bid and will more than likely town her away from her Philadelphia's Former NAVY Yard Berth by year's end for Brownsville Scrap Yard.

Another Freeper on another thread a week or two ago made the same accusation about McCain. Because of what started the fire there is 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt to anyone carrier vet he could NOT have possibly started that fire. I've heard the ascuttlebutt that he was on the Cat ready for launch and everything else. The diagram you posted is what the Air Boss orders were on where to spot the planes and in what order. The flightdeck videos also show where his plane was which was in the chart you posted.

I loathe McCain's political viewpoints and anti conservative backstabbing antics. That being said Freepers trying to connect him as the cause or indirect cause responsible for that fire do their own credibility and the sites credibility no favors.

The Forrestal was moored at Newport Naval Station when I was a kid growing up on the base. Its a shame to see it go. A lousy end for a good ship.

Yea the Navy had a carrier pier in Mayport, Florida and I think stopped using it as a home port sometime after Pier 10 was built in Norfolk in the 1980's. Big mistake IMO to put 5 carriers there. Also in 1980 the orders came down under Carter that America and Forrestal would change homeports in about 1982. That got rescinded under Reagan.

Google Kerry Ellis and the scrapping of the Coral Sea. AFAIK he died in prison after being convicted when the EPA went after him.
