The Council of Trent condemned all Protestants. Rome has never repudiated that ruling. But I don’t fear CATHOLIC candidates or nominees.
Maybe next time...
Nice try. But the entire foundation of the Roman Catholic church doesn't stand or fall upon the Council of Trent's position on Protestantism. IoW, the Roman Catholic church had already considered itself quite fine & dandy for umpteen years before uttering a single word @ that council!
By parallel, you cannot make the same conclusion re: Mormonism's position on the worldwide Christian church. It literally makes -- or breaks itself -- based upon what the true status was of the worldwide Christian church when two unnamed entities appeared to Joseph Smith in the 1820s.
Hence, if you take away the alleged "Great Apostasy," there would NO need...as in "zippo" -- for a restored (Mormon) church.
'Twould be all superflous. Redundant. 100% unnecessary.
You see, the Mormon church has NEVER billed itself as some "improved" reformed church.
Nope.
It claims to be the ONLY church in town. (D&C 1:30). And in order to make that claim, it needed a HUGE spiritual graveyard called "Christendom" as its foundation.
No such spiritual graveyard? (Then No Mormon church-as-THE-true-restored church)
A Catholic politician can take the Council of Trent -- or leave it -- and really won't make much of a difference. But a Mormon who tries claiming that the Christian church wasn't in apostasy for 1800 years or so???
Why there goes the entire claimed foundation of the Mormon church and its First Vision!
