The United Federation of Teachers has spent decades pleading for more money for public schools.
So eyebrows might have shot up when it turned down federal Race to the Top funds at its UFT Charter School. Well, the mysterys been solved.
While tens of thousands of teachers around the state will be subject to new yearly evaluations, UFT Charter School chief executive Sheila Evans-Tranumn says her teachers wont have to. Thats because, as a charter, her school is allowed to opt out of the evaluation system, as long as it hasnt taken Race to the Top money. And its chosen to do just that.
August test scores for students at the Brooklyn charter were among the worst in the city. Last year, the school was ranked lower than a traditional school it shares space with, JHS 166which itself was so bad the city tried to close it down.

What the silly moron couldn't understand was the majority of his union “teachers” can't teach. They indoctrinate, but they cannot teach. Teaching requires original thought, inspiration, and ability. Those are things strongly discouraged by unions.
Any excuse for not taking federal money is better than taking the federal money.
