Forget the burger and fries clogging your arteries. The "Big Catch" fish platter at Long John Silver's is being called the "Worst Restaurant Meal in America." The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a consumer advocacy group, says the dish has more than 1300 calories, 33 grams of trans fats and 3700 milligrams of sodium.

I went to a LJS not to long ago, and was really amazed at just how salty the batter is now, but more to the point, I couldn't believe how greasy the fish and chicken were. I even tried blotting the fish and chicken 3 times, using fresh napkins, and they would be soaked with oil.
I felt really queasy after eating it from all the grease. I won't be going back.

Uhm, not quite.
Beef tallow gives fried food it's yummy taste, and that's what McD, KFC, BK, etc. all used before Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) became the National food nannies.
In 1984, CSPI kicked off their anti-saturated fat campaign, blaming McD, KFC, BK, Wendy's, et al for clogging our arteries with evil saturated fat. *shudder*
Instead of telling the vegetarians CSPI to go piss up a rope, the fast food joints switched to vegetable oil for frying.
Now, the edible oil industry knew that un-saturated fats (oils) breakdown and go rancid much faster than saturated fats like tallow and lard, ... so they bind a hydrogen atom to the fat chain, producing a hydrogenated or trans fat.
The Tragic Legacy of Center for Science in the Public Interest
First time I ever hear of these jack-off they were waring of the dangers of beef chimichangas. How many beef chimichangas can one eat as a habit in the course of living, to cause a problem?
As far as Long Dong Silver’s goes their food is marginal at best and if the grease makes it taste better then it can use all the help it can get.
To this bunch at the “center for science to be a pain in the ass”, screw you.
this stuff is so good. It wont kill you as long as you eat it once in a blue moon.
“the fast food joints switched to vegetable oil for frying.”

And that’s when I stopped eating McDonald’s fries. They used to be the best ever.
.
Popeye’s used to have catfish — YUM YUM eat em up.
Fried in soy or canola oil, and guaranteed to contain no food whatsoever.
CSPI has probably killed more people than all of the fast food joints combined. They were the ones that successfully demonized animal fats and forced the food industry to adopt trans fat veggie oils which were found to actually cause heart disease and kill people. They are just another ultra left wing vegetarian affiliates org.
I like the Cole Slaw as well... the Hush Puppies... I find them dry, flavorless, useless. They would make good ammo for an oversized slingshot, or just take it and bean yer kid brother in the head with one.
Worse... the “vegetable oil” used is mostly soybean oil... which is unfit for human consumption. One day someone is going to show the connection to health problems caused by the proliferation of soy in the human diet.
soy seems to work for the Asians
I love LJ’s chicken planks - I could eat a dozen of them in one sitting. They are, however, loaded with a TON of salt. Surely not the best thing to eat healthwise.
“How can they be fries if you baked them? They would be bakes.”
They’re fries even it they’re baked the same way French toast is still French toast or French fries are still French fries, even when made and served in the U.S.
There is a local restraunt chain from my home town of Tucson, AZ called The Lucky Wishbone. They can outdo anyone on the planet for greasy food! LJS cannot even begin to come close!
About once a year I crave the fried food at Silver’s. The rest of the time the oily food has no allure.
It does have to be explained to many people here in the PNW as few have ever heard of anything like that (other than maybe as breading for fish?).
I do like LJS and in 25+ years of eating occasionally there don't think I've ever got sick afterward. Can't say that about many places.
So there go half my day’s Weight Watchers points. That’s ok, it was worth it.
yeah....the same...in your gross microwave. Whatever you say.
Oven. The big thing with the natural gas burner inside.
