“Once again, somebody gets fired for telling the truth, and calling a species by it’s correct genus!”

I’ve just written a novel and a major character is a black man in a city and time when there are almost no blacks. The other characters react as they probably would given the circumstances. This is a major plot driver. My first reader was horrified as their reactions weren’t politically correct. I’m actually concerned now to see how the other reviewers react. It would be nearly impossible to rewrite either the reactions, which are critical to the plot, or to change the character to something more politically acceptable. (What would that be?)

Ain’t it nice to be published?
I have a six-year publishing history with what was, the local newspaper, until Gannett got involved, moved the paper out of town, and made it a regional fishwrap.
