Yes, that thing that people don’t like to contemplate will always happen. There is not way to stop it. It’s a constant in nature.
That is why the first thing you have to worry about is saving yourself.
For, if you are dead, you are no use when conflict does start.

And you also don’t win a war by dying before the war even starts. Because, when conflict does start it would be preferable if your side outnumbered the enemy.
It would be preferable, but not necessary.
