The Cadillac ELR extended range electric luxury coupe will go on sale in January for $75,995, including destination charges.
Derived from the 2009 Converj concept car, the ELR will have a driving range of more 300 miles between the dual fuel powertrain of an electric motor and a gas generator. The electric-only range is 35 miles, General Motors says, but once the battery loses power the 1.4-liter gas generator takes over to power the electric motor.
If this sounds like the Chevy Volt, the other plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or extended range electric (EREV) produced by GM, its because the ELR is being produced in the same Detroit factory and on the same platform as the Chevy Volt.

I’ll stay with fossil fuels, thank you.
Yep, you and me both.
I’ll buy an electric car when they use graphene (or similar technology) based capacitors as the battery. Until then, they are not ready for prime time.
$75k for a toaster on wheels?
I’ll keep the gas drinker.
Well, apparently the price is $76,000.
What a strange headline - it answered its own question before it was even asked...
No, you're not going to drive it across the country, but for an "around town" vehicle, it wouldn't be bad.
Just asking. Has anyone been able to calculate the COST PER MILE for this thing?
I bet my 1990 Buick gasmobile, considering all my car costs will be miniscule $$ per mile in comparison.
Of course, the buyer of this voltmobile is not a person who will even consider the per mile price.
GM - Bringing you the stupid as fast as we can!
I’ll stick with my 19 year old 4X4, thanks-it gets me wherever I need to go, and I’d never be able to afford a ladeda car anyhow, even if I didn’t mind looking for a place to plug the stupid thing in...
At 75 large you could take a cab back and forth and still be $$$$ ahead.
We’re in the middle of one of the biggest oil booms in human history and people are pushing electric cars based on 20th century tech.
No thanks...
That’s over twice the cost of my first house...
ELR?
Electrically Limited Range?........................
CoalCars
Within the next 6 months I’ll very probably be ordering a diesel that’s about half what this costs. It gets close to 50mpg highway (which is 95% of my driving) and can go 700+ miles on a tankful.I’ll walk before I ever drive an electric vehicle.
That’s over 5 times the price of our first home but I’m kinda dating myself. lol
Another Obamamobile only affordable by the elite. Still, since the elite are not stupid as a rule, sales will probably be horrible, with only a few being sold as vanity cars to a few of the Hollywood famous who will only drive them during photo ops.
