A divinity school in Tennessee has installed an openly homosexual clergywoman as the schools new dean.
Vanderbilt Divinity School (VDS), located in Nashville, Tennessee, has developed a reputation for progressive policies and teachings. An article last week in Nashville Scene described the institution as a liberal oasis and a bastion of the religious left where scholars tend to challenge rather than uphold orthodoxy.
In keeping with these beliefs, the school has officially appointed Emilie Townes as the 16th dean of the school. Not only is Townes an ordained American Baptist clergywoman, but she is also an overt homosexual.
Townes liberal stance on social issues have earned her a profile on The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Religious Archives Network. In a 2012 article Townes wrote for The Huffington Post, she describes her marriage with her homosexual partner.
[My partner and I] are both clear that we do not to conform to the standard text of marriage, Townes wrote, but we want to find ways to breath new air and life into what it means to be married not only by the state, but even more so in the eyes of the Holy Spirit.
As a Christian social ethicist with womanist leanings, she continues, I am clear that the Bible says precious little about same sex relationships, though it appears to have a bit more to say about acts but even that is muddled. I am also clear that although God judges our acts, God does so out of love and mercy and would much rather spend holy time applauding our attempts at humanity than smiting our behavior.
Townes homosexual partner, Laurel Schneider, also joined the VDS faculty this year. Schneider is now a professor of religious studies.

But just think of the Affirmative Action points Vandy is putting up on the board: Black, Woman, and Lesbian...a triple threat in the backfield.
Every major university from Auburn to Yale has a huge and expensive diversity bureaucracy with over-paid affirmative action staff to promote the recruitment and retention of minorities and people of diverse sexual orientations.
This country is toast.
and here’s my answer.....
Professor of African-American religion and theology and associate dean of academic affairs at Yale Divinity School
african-american religion and theology???
I’ve been saying for years the SEC needs to get rid of Vandy and bring back Ga.Tech.
They’ve been persecuting Christians for several years now - ever since they finished with the attempt to steal a building from the Southerners.
Heck...I'm not even sure that's a woman.......
Every conference needs a private school. I know there is some kind of legal reason they do it, whereas if a conference consisted solely of public universities, there were some ramifications.
Vanderbilt Divinity School?
Isn’t that the one Al Gore flunked out of?
And people wonder why Im not impressed when they tell me they have studied at some divinity or theological school or have a degree from one.
Bingo.
Vanderbilt's Divinity School looks to be about as solid as its football team.
So when Aggies yell, "Beat the HELL out of Vanderbilt," later this season, it will be literally true.
Can't wait to see Johnny Football put up record numbers against Vanderbilt!
Isnt that the one Al Gore flunked out of?
Maybe he was a lesbian trapped in a man's body.
Hope the Aggies destroy them.
As a Vanderbilt grad (1982) I have been terribly embarrassed as to the direction of my alma matter in the last 20 years. There was a time I thought the administration was douchie, but had balls. Now it’s just douchie and trying to be a bigger university of sensitivity and political correctness than Brown U.
The Vandy football team has gone to bowls the last two years
Romans ch 1 vv 24-27:
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creatorwho is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
That doesn't sound muddled to me, it sounds like God is saying He destroyed the people of the ancient world (except righteous Noah & family)with a worldwide flood because of the very same sin that those women are comitting.
This is yet another good reason thankfully, SBC doesn't ordain women!
#1) Lesbian precludes association with Christianity. No GO.
#2) She ain’t appealing to men, let one lesbians. No GO!
ergo she’s a loser.
I should have read your post #13 before I posted the same verses, it would have saved me the effort of laboriously pecking those verses out on my keyboard.
Obviously not my religion.
She WILL burn in hell....
