That kid is an expert driver it seems. When my hubby was in elementary school, he and all his family chopped cotton and harvested peanuts for a living.
Likewise, plenty of children learned to drive tractors, and help out on the family farm. I used to sit in grandpa’s lap and drive the old sedan. I also used to help milk the cows, gather eggs etc.
When I was thirteen, I had a full time summerjob babysitting 3 kids all in diapers or toddler pants. When I was 14, I went to work as a waitress and wanted to work more than the law would allow.
My kids never had these experiences, but I am glad that I did. It was a lot more satisfying and productive than watching tv and playing video games.
Not that I am advocating child labor or anything. Just thinking about old times, and how that helped develop a work ethic instead of a dependency mentality.
That is a very good point. We are reaping what we are sowing. Instead of treating them like babies, teach them to be responsible and mature.
I've always thought that parenting skills were a lost art in most of our population.
