It will be a busy week in the Bender garden as we prepare it for the rains of winter. All the spent plants have been removed and put on the compost piles unless they were infected with a disease and they were dumped over the bank into the gulch. I started planting a cover crop of Common Vetch on about 20% of the fallow beds and then got side tracked with planting the Garlic sets today and got about 30% of that done before the sun went behind the trees and it got cooler so came in about 4:30. I picked the last 45 cucumbers and pulled the plants and dumped them yesterday. That brings the total to 400 plus or minus off of 4 hills. Those plants did us proud and made up for a couple of failures

400 cukes per hill! How many plants do you have in a Hill? We don’t do very well with cukes, watermelons, or canteloupe stuff here. It’s hared to get the vines to live long enough for the fruit to be ready.
Cukes do the best.
