My, don't they look proud. But after shooting this rare albino moose near Belle Cote in Nova Scotia last week and posting the pics to social media the trio has sparked considerable outrage, particularly among the region's Mi'kmaq indigenous community.
These guys breached a kind of unwritten code of conduct that has also upset many in the hunting community.

Don't ya just love the "it's rare, it's special,,,so we gotta kill it!" mindset? Apparently these fearless "hunters" took it down from 300 yards with a semi-automatic. Really something to brag about, which they did. Mighty hunters, indeed. Mighty jerks.

And legally killing an animal during hunting season which happens to be genetically defective is "moronic"...why, exactly?

Are you under the mistaken impression that semi-automatic firearms aren't regularly used in hunting?

What laws did they break? There are thousands of fish and game laws in every state and province protecting every rare animal and endangered species. There are laws also about mating seasons, and ages of animals and size etc. Surely if it’s as you say, they must have done something wrong in the eyes of the wildlife regulators Have them prosecuted if they did. If they didn’t do anything wrong and were just exercising their rights as properly licensed hunters, then shut up and leave them alone.

People/jerks like this give hunters and guns a bad name, when in fact “it’s the people, stupid”.

Because is screen name is chessplayer. I have mixed feelings about what they did though. I don’t give a crud about how sacred it is to the indians, but something that rare... Well, I guess that’d be a hard shot to pass up.

Albinism is not exactly a beneficial mutation. Removing the albino moose from the population is a beneficial culling. So my good will is with the hunters.

From most of the replies to this post, it seems that the posters are the mindless nincompoops. A moose of any color is fair ame. I would have it stuffed and let it stand in my living room.

It is moronic because it is worth far more alive than dead. Not to these particular hunters. They can sell the skin, or stuff it.
Hunting season is hunting season. If it's moose hunting season, and they have a hunting license, then they can bag a moose. Doesn't matter if it's brown, white, or pink with purple stripes.

300 yards is a decently long shot for a hunter. Semi-auto is meaningless in a hunting rifle due to the caliber and recoil. It is still one shot on target at a time.
Your comments are off base. Yes, it is too bad that they weren't aware of moronic Indian customs.

It’s not like this is a rare breed, or endangered species. It’s just a dang albino. As long as there are moose, there will be albino moose from time to time. So, what exactly did they do wrong?
