I lived in El Salvador at the time and traveled to all 14 districts of that fine country and that film was a travesty. Hollywood was a great facilitator of murder, rape, and terrorism via its support of the FMLN guerrillas.
Though in Salvador, Woods played his character as a total left wing creep.
I agree with your opinion, “Salvador” is too far out there, sort of the way, just for me, “Platoon” is as well. That said, per acting, perhaps Woods’ acting is good in the movie but I still don’t accept the message or at least question it. Both sides have to be shown, it was too gorey.
For a comparison, “Underfire” with Nick Nolte and Gene Hackman which was a movie about Nicaragua might not have a message I agree with either. But the portrayal is not nearly as objectionable. In my opinion though, it was still Pro-Sandinista.
